The Two Gentlemen of Verona

EastLine Theatre brought Free Shakespeare to parks across Long Island with The Two Gentlemen of Verona in the summer of 2022.

After last year’s run of Romeo & Juliet, EastLine returned to Verona with The Two Gentlemen of Verona! This rollicking take on Shakespeare's classic comedy featured original live music and toured a dozen scenic locations across Long Island. All performance were free, fun, and family friendly.

Shakespeare returns to Verona! This time with Valentine and Proteus, who are best friends until they fall in love with the same person. Hijinks of course ensue because one has already sworn their love to another. Filled with love, betrayal, slapstick, some zany servants, a band of outlaws, and a dog, this comedic tale will have you laughing from beginning to end.

Anjor’s Note: It was so fun to take on the role of Sylvia in this play! She’s a feisty, headstrong character, who really is a romantic at heart. It was incredible to work with my director and castmates to craft stories for these characters, finding the seriousness and humor in them all. We also performed outdoors the entire summer—we were on beaches, on stages, in parks, you name it! I very quickly learned that each show would be different, and adapting to that was a fun challenge. I found that using the unique setting to my advantage was key; we’d ad-lib if the wind blew away a prop, wandered through the crowd during the big musical numbers, and, most importantly, my castmates and I all had each other’s backs when performing all over. It was a summer I’ll never forget!
